Product(s): NetBackup & Alta Data Protection
Problem
Restoring files from one Operating System to another with NetBackup is not supported. When restoring files from one OS (Operating System) to another, the data validity cannot be guaranteed.
Examples of dissimilar platform restores are:- Restoring files from a Windows backup to a UNIX system, OR...
- Restoring from Windows backup to a Linux system, OR...
- Restoring from a Linux backup to a Solaris system.
Cause
Some file types become corrupt, or restore as 0 (zero) byte files because there are significant differences between Windows and UNIX filesystems.
Solution
It is an alert. The procedure carries a risk.
Veritas Technical Support does not support restores to dissimilar platform, or dissimilar filesystem, or compatibility when attempting to 'restore files' to a different platform, or filesystem, type than the 'original' used in the backup.
Customers are strongly advised against performing this type of restore as the procedure is known not to work in all cases.
