Problem

As of Java 7 update 45, users may receive a warning when launching the KVM remote console from the IPMI on their appliance.

This messages states the following:

"This application will be blocked in a future Java security update because the JAR file manifest does not contain the Permissions attribute. Please contact the Publisher for more information"

As of Java 7 update 51, users will not be able to launch the KVM remote console, and the following message will be displayed:

"The certificate is not valid and cannot be used to verify the identity of this website."

 OR

"Your secuirty settings have blocked a self-signed application from running"

Cause

Intel BMC firmware JAR (Java Archive) contains a self-signed JAVA signature.
=The newer Java versions(7 update 51 and later) require the signature to be provided by a “Trusted Authority”.

Solution

Veritas is aware of the issue and is actively investigating the future impact to console functionality with the manufacturer of the IPMI interface.

The current remediation for Java versions 7 update 45 and prior is to simply accept the warning, which will allow you to proceed normally to the remote KVM console.

The current remediation for Java versions 7 update 51 and on, is as follows:

1. Navigate to the Windows control panel and open the selection for "Java".

2. Click the "Security" tab.

3. Select the "Edit Site List" button, and then click "Add"

4. Enter your RMM IP address into the field, including the "https://" , and click "OK" to accept the settings.

You should now be able to launch the KVM console sucessfully.
