How to resolve WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) errors during the Environmental Check while installing Backup Exec

Solution

Refer to Microsoft's guide to running WMIDiag script:

Extract and run WMIDiag.vbs, it will create an error log.

Error 0x8004100F - (WBEM_E_INVALID_OBJECT) Specified instance is not valid

Note: WMIDiag.vbs is a VBScript script designed to help you ascertain the current state of the WMI service on a computer. The download package includes the utility itself, a ReadMe file that discusses how the tool works (and how to best use it), and sample spreadsheets that provide information about the default WMI configuration on various versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system.

The tool fixes most permissions errors and if some configuration issue, it will create a text file and tells how to fix it.

22042 21:11:48 (1) !! ERROR: Actual trustee 'NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE' DOES NOT match corresponding expected trustee rights (Actual->Default)

22061 21:11:48 (0) ** => The actual ACE has the right(s) '&h12 WBEM_METHOD_EXECUTE WBEM_WRITE_PROVIDER' removed!

22062 21:11:48 (0) **    This will cause some operations to fail!

22063 21:11:48 (0) **    It is possible to fix this issue by editing the security descriptor and adding the removed right.

22064 21:11:48 (0) **    For WMI namespaces, this can be done with 'WMIMGMT.MSC'.

SUCCESS: WMIDiag determined that WMI works CORRECTLY.
