Problem

Why NetBackup requires SQL SysAdmin role to back up Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint, and Enterprise Vault databases.

 

Solution

As with any other third-party backup software, NetBackup interfaces with Microsoft Virtual Device Interface (VDI) to back up and restore SQL databases. To use VDI, SysAdmin role is mandatory.
 
 
Download the file (v_backup.exe) and double click to extract the contents. Double click vbackup.chm and on the Search tab, enter "Security" as the keyword.
 
 

Applies To

NetBackup 8.x and 9.x backing up Microsoft Office SharePoint Server,  Microsoft SQL Server, and Veritas Enterprise Vault Server.
