Problem

SCSI 3 PGR must be enabled when using Active/Active DMP DSM within a cluster

Solution

This article contains information about using Active/Active and Active/Passive Settings in a Cluster Environment

DMP ASL

Active/Passive is the only setting that is supported for DMP ASLs in a cluster environment. An alternative way to use Active/Passive in a cluster environment is to configure the environment in an Active/Passive Concurrent mode. Active/Passive Concurrent mode can be set up in a cluster environment by selecting Active/Passive and specifying the preferred or primary paths for data transmission at the device level. Specifying the preferred or primary paths dedicates the paths to specific LUNs. In this way, data is transferred along many paths concurrently and multiple paths are active in a cluster environment.

DMP DSM (MPIO)

Active/Active or Active/Passive can be used with DMP DSMs in a cluster environment. To support Active/Active load balancing in a cluster environment, the array must support SCSI-3 persistent reservations. Using Active/Passive in a cluster environment does not require the disks to be under SCSI-3 reservation. Active/Passive Concurrent mode, as described for DMP ASLs, can also be used with MPIO DSMs.
