Problem
Uninstalling VMware Snapshot Provider using automated or manual method.
Solution
Please follow the instructions below to uninstall the VMware Snapshot Provider.
NOTE: Automated uninstall method should be preferred over the manual uninstall method.

AUTOMATED:
1) Start the
VMware Tools Install/Upgrade from the
vCenter/vSphere console/client
Note: If the following popup appears, select
Interactive Tools Upgrade and
OK
2) Log on to the virtual machine console and the VMware Tools Install Wizard should be starting
3) When the wizard loads, click
Next
4) Select
Modify
5) Expand the
VMware Device Drivers
6) Expand
Volume Shadow Copy Services Support and select the
red X (This feature will not be available).
7) Confirm the
Volume Shadow Copy Services Support option now has a
red X next to it and click
Next
8) Select Modify
9) If the following prompt appears, select
Ignore to continue
10) Click
Finish
11) Click
Yes to reboot the guest machine to complete the uninstall of VMware Snapshot Provider (required)

Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
- Delete the "VSS" folder from <volume>:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\Drivers
- Delete the VMware Snapshot Provider service from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vmvss
- Delete the VMware Snapshot Provider {564d7761-7265-2056-5353-2050726f7669} from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Providers
- Reboot the guest machine (required).
