NetBackup 8.2 feature support in NAT environment

NetBackup 8.2 supports NetBackup clients in a private network that are connected to NetBackup servers in a public network via a device that performs Network Address Translation (NAT).

This document provides the following information:

• Deployments that are supported in NAT-enabled NetBackup domain
• Configurations, workloads, or features that NetBackup does not support when NetBackup client is behind the NAT

Supported deployments in NAT-enabled NetBackup domain

Note: 

• A NetBackup client behind the NAT can only be backed up by NetBackup 8.2 media server.

• NetBackup media servers behind the NAT are not supported.

• NetBackup clients earlier than 8.2 are not supported behind the NAT.

List of unsupported NetBackup workloads / features when NetBackup client is behind the NAT

Note: NetBackup clients that can be directly connected from NetBackup servers will continue to support these features even in NAT-enabled NetBackup domain.

The following NetBackup features or workloads are not supported when the client is behind the NAT:

• SAN client
• NDMP backups where the NDMP device is behind the NAT
• Client-side deduplication
• Snapshot management server behind the NAT 
• Bare metal restore
• Throttle bandwidth
• Resilient Network
