Problem

How to check the version or status of the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers.

Cause

To facilitate backups of remote machines, Backup Exec uses the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS). This agent allows data to be compressed and streamed from a remote server to the Backup Exec Server. The Remote Agent is also necessary to perform backups using certain other Backup Exec options or agents, such as the Open File Option, Exchange, SQL, etc..

For full compatibility and optimal backups, it is important that the version of the Remote Agent on remote server matches the version of the Backup Exec Remote Agent that runs on the Backup Exec server.

Solution

To determine the version of the Remote Agent executable (Beremote.exe) on a remote Microsoft Windows machine, perform one of the following steps:

A.
  1. Search for Beremote.exe in the Remote agent install location (default path is C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS OR C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS).

  2. Right-click on Beremote.exe - Properties - Version or Details
Note:  The file version of beremote.exe on the remote machine must match the version of the Backup Exec Remote Agent (Beremote.exe) on the Backup Exec server located at the install location (default location is  C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec OR  C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec )

B.
  1. Go to Backup and Restore tab.
  2. Right click the remote server and click on Details.
  3. Click on Properties tab and it will show the Version of Remote agent installed as shown in the image below. (Figure 1)
