NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3
- Customers planning to upgrade to 5.3, should instead upgrade to 5.3.0.1 Maintenance Release 4.
- NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3 requires to install a valid appliance software license entitlement on the appliance models 5250 and 5350. Appliance software licenses are generated from the Veritas Entitlement Management System (VEMS). The appliance software license requires host ID validation and limits the use of the license to a specific appliance. The VEMS user’s guide can be found at https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100048764. It is recommended that you generate a license and have that file ready prior to your upgrade from OS 5.0 (includes maintenance releases) and previous versions. OS 5.1.1 requires to install a valid appliance software license before upgrade to OS 5.3. Additional information about licensing and solutions to common problems, refer to: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100055409. If you need to use a hashed host ID for license generation, contact Veritas support with reference article 100060783.
- Primary servers being upgraded to 5.3 or later will require a NetBackup entitlement license key generated from the Veritas Entitlement Management System (VEMS).
- Prior to upgrading, review article 100063883 to avoid a potential upgrade failure.
- Prior to running the Appliance Upgrade Readiness Analyzer in preparation for an upgrade from NetBackup Appliance OS 4.1 and 5.0 (including maintenance release) to NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3, primary servers must install this NetBackup HotFix .
- Refer to : https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100061097 when unable to register Veritas Alta View with NetBackup primary server using the NetBackup web UI because of the invalid Veritas Alta View credentials error.
- If you have a support exception from a previous release, it becomes invalid after you upgrade. If support exception is still needed, make sure to request it and get it delivered for the new release before you upgrade.
- Review the Pre-Upgrade CheckList and make sure to complete all required pre-upgrade check tasks before upgrade your appliance.
- Review the Post-Upgrade CheckList and execute all the required actions after the upgrade has completed successfully.

Run the latest NetBackup Appliance Upgrade Readiness Analyzer tool no more than 24 hours before the upgrade installation.

Update appliance to the latest firmware version with the Veritas Appliance firmware update tool is strongly recommended.
- Appliance upgrade readiness data updates are now available through System Health Insights on the NetInsights Console. Veritas recommends that you keep Health Maintenance plugin AutoUpdate enabled together with Call Home to let you receive accurate upgrade readiness status. More details see Veritas NetBackup Appliance Administrator's Guide.
- Starting with NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3, NetBackup software license add/update need operate through NetBackup web UI. Starting with NetBackup 10.3 (shipped within NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3), NetBackup uses license files instead of license keys. After your appliance upgrade to OS 5.3, you need generate a new NetBackup software license from VEMS web site and add it to the primary server. - Starting with NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3, no NetBackup Virtual Appliance support, NetBackup Virtual Appliance upgrade to OS 5.3 will be blocked.

- NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3 support cloud upgrade automation (touchless upgrades), which make OS 5.3 can be upgrade to future releases in NetInsights for registered appliances.
- NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3 also deliver following new features and improvements:
- Integration of shared licensing to support subscription-based licenses in WebUI
- Ability to shut down the 5U84 storage shelf from the CLISH to reduce administrative exposure
- Data Collect logging enhancements
- Access to D-serial storage shelf CLIs through the CLISH to reduce administrative access exposure
- Telemetry improvements
- NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3 has the ability to gain health insights and actionable AI/ML-based recommendations to maintain health and performance of your appliances after you register them in NetInsights Console
- NetBackup Appliance OS 5.3 is available for the following supported H/W platforms: NetBackup 5350,5340&HA, 5250 and 5240 appliances.
- NetBackup appliances with a current maintenance contract can upgrade to version 5.3. Direct upgrades are supported only from versions 4.1 and higher. See the Veritas NetBackup Appliance Upgrade Guide for more details.

Base and upgrade installers
Click Base and upgrade installers to view the files associated with this product version. Check the box next to each file that you wish to download, then click Download. The Download button will appear once you check the first file. After you click Download, you may be prompted to select a Veritas Entitlement Management System (VEMS) account. If you are asked to select a VEMS account, select the account that you wish to be the account of record for your download transaction.
To download files in the Base and upgrade installers section:
- You must have a Veritas account. If you do not have a Veritas account, you can create one by clicking Sign in at the top of the page and then clicking Create one.
- Your Veritas account ID (email address) must be registered as a user of a VEMS account that holds an entitlement for the product with an Entitled Version (displayed in VEMS) that is greater than or equal to this product';s'; version.
- Your Veritas account ID must have either the VEMS Administrator or Download Software privilege.
- You must log in with this Veritas account. To log in, click Sign in.
Note: You may not be entitled to download all files listed as some Veritas product offerings entitle different file sets. For example, some product offerings vary by platform (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.). In these cases you will only be able to download files for the platforms entitled by your VEMS entitlements.
To view which products and versions you are entitled to download, log into VEMS by clicking Licensing on Support home page. Once logged in, click Entitlements at the top of the page. Locate the entitlements for this product and verify that the Entitled Version for at least one entitlement for the product is greater than or equal to the version of the product you want to download. You will not be able to download the product if the version of the product you want to download is greater than the Entitled Version of all of the entitlements for the product.
The Download Center records all download transactions. After you click Download, you may be prompted to select a Veritas Entitlement Management System (VEMS) account. Select the VEMS account you wish to be the account of record for your download transaction.
Updates
Click Updates to view all software updates associated with this version of the product. Click the Update name to view the full details of the update and to download its files. Check the box next to each file that you wish to download, then click Download. The Download button will appear once you check the first file.
To download files in the Updates section:
- You must have a Veritas account. If you do not have a Veritas account, you can create one by clicking Sign in at the top of the page and then clicking Create one.
- You must log in with this Veritas account. To log in, click Sign in.
- Some updates require that you purchased a maintenance contract and that your contract was active at the time the update was release. If so, your Veritas account ID (email address) will need to be a registered user of a Veritas Entitlement Management System (VEMS) account that holds an entitlement for one of the product releases listed in the update's' Applies to the following releases section.
- If you are not a registered user of any VEMS accounts that entitles the download, you will be prompted to enter an Entitlement Code. Enter either a VEMS entitlement ID or appliance serial number. If the Entitlement Code can be matched to a VEMS entitlement that can entitle the download, you will be able to download the update. VEMS entitlement IDs and the appliance serial numbers can be found on on your Veritas Certificate or can be provided by registered VEMS user.
The Download Center records all download transactions. After you click Download, you may be prompted to select a VEMS account. Select the VEMS account you wish to be the account of record for your download transaction.
