Veritas NetBackup Server / Enterprise Server - Device Mappings Package for Windows Servers (article 100015982)

HotFix

Abstract

Veritas NetBackup Server / Enterprise Server Device Mappings Package for Windows Servers

Description

These packages (v1.181) contain an update to the NetBackup mappings files. The files external_robotics.txt and external_types.txt are used by the NetBackup Enterprise Media Manager database to determine which protocols and settings to use to communicate with storage devices. They are also used by the Device Configuration Wizard to automatically configure new devices.

Packages Mappings_CRC_v1181 and Mappings_v1181 enable functionality for the following devices or solutions:

  • OVHcloud Standard Object Storage (S3)
  • Fujitsu CS8000 COSS (S3)

The presence of a device or solution that is enabled in the file external_types.txt does not indicate, expressed or implied, support of the device or solution on the target NetBackup/Enterprise Media Manager platform. Refer to the NetBackup Hardware and Cloud Storage Compatibility List (HCL) for a current list of supported devices and solutions.

The files in the Mappings_v1181 package work with NetBackup 7.7.x, 8.x.x.x, and 9.x.x.x releases.

The files in the Mappings_CRC_v1181 package work with NetBackup 10.x.x.x releases.

Veritas recommends downloading and installing the package for your NetBackup version:

  • Before configuring a cloud solution with the Cloud Configuration Wizard. If your cloud solution is listed in the recent additions above, download and install this package to permit configuration of the cloud solution.
  • Before configuring an OpenStorage storage server for Accelerator or Targeted A.I.R.. If your OST solution is listed in the recent additions above, download and install this package to permit configuration of the OST functionality.
  • Before discovering and configuring devices with the Device Configuration Wizard. If your configuration contains a new device listed in the recent additions above, download and install this package to properly configure the device.

Note: To load NetBackup device mappings files onto a NetBackup Appliance running in a Primary Server role, contact Veritas Support and ask the representative to refer to Article 100038741.

These instructions assume that NetBackup is installed in the default location of C:\Program Files\VERITAS\. If NetBackup is installed in a different location, substitute that path for C:\Program Files\VERITAS\ in the instructions below:

1. Download and extract the new mappings file package to a temporary folder.

Mappings_v1181.zip (for NetBackup 7.x.x, 8.x.x.x, and 9.x.x.x)

Mappings_CRC_v1181.zip (for NetBackup 10.x.x.x)

This will create three files in the temporary location:

  • Readme.txt

  • external_types.txt

  • external_robotics.txt

2. Copy the external_types.txt file from the temporary location to C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\var\global\ on the Primary/EMM Server.

(For NetBackup High Availability environments, copy the file to the shared disk.)

3. Copy the external_robotics.txt file from the temporary location to C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\var\global\ on the Primary/EMM Server, each media server that controls a robot, and each media server from which robot inventories will be run.

(For NetBackup High Availability environments, copy the file to the shared disk.)

4. Bring up a command window with Start -> Run -> Type "cmd". Enter the following commands in that command window.

5. Update the NetBackup Enterprise Media Manager database with the new device mappings version. This only needs to be done once and must be run from the Primary/EMM Server. Use the command format below:

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin\tpext -loadEMM

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin\tpext -get_dev_mappings

6. Restart Device Manager (ltid) on each Media Server.

7. Verify that the version that is now stored in the Enterprise Media Manager database is the same as what is in the file stored on the Media Server:

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin\tpext -get_dev_mappings_ver
