Backup Exec has a utility to export the contents of the Backup Exec Catalog file to a xml or text file. This utility is the replacement for the Catalog Dump (CATDUMP.EXE) Utility that has been provided for previous versions of Backup Exec.

To use this utility:

1. Backup Exec 2014 or a later version must be installed*

2. CatTools.exe must be copied to the directory where Backup Exec is installed (Default C:\Program Files\veritas\Backup Exec\).

     N ote: Even though Backup Exec version 2014 or later is required to run this utility, catalogs from any previous version of Backup Exec can be exported using this tool

 Backup Exec Catalog Tool

 Usage: CatTool [OPTIONS]

   For converting catalog:

     CatTool <-Convert | -C > <-FileName | -FN> <filename> <-Type | -T> <XML | TEXT> [<-Output | -O> <output file name>]

 Options:

     -Convert   | -C      required To convert catalog files

     -FileName | -FN     required To specify catalog file name and path

                                    This could be catalog's .fh or .xml file name.

     -Type       | -T      optional To indicate output format. Default is XML.

                                    User can set it to TEXT, too.

     -Output     | -O     optional To indicate output file name.

     Example:

     In this example the {guid}_n.xml and {guid}_n.fh are copied to the C:\Temp folder

       CatTool -c -fn "C:\Temp\{8D92DF3E-B105-43F6-8BCE-444083F25370}_1.fh"

       This command will convert catalog file to XML format and generate output

       file called C:\Temp\{8D92DF3E-B105-43F6-8BCE-444083F25370}_1._out.xml

       CatTool -c -fn "C:\Temp\{8D92DF3E-B105-43F6-8BCE-444083F25370}_1.fh"

       -t text

       This command will convert catalog file to XML format and generate output

       file called C:\Temp\{8D92DF3E-B105-43F6-8BCE-444083F25370}_1._out.txt

  NOTES:

- For this to create the output it requires both .fh and .xml catalog files of the matching {guid} to be in the same folder!

- The console may go into a non-responsive state while generating the text file (very large .fh file). Process is complete when the C:\ prompt returns. 

- The options and output format may have changed from those available in the previous tool, CATDUMP.EXE
