Enterprise Vault™ Migrating Data using Fujitsu ETERNUS Archive Storage

Configuring the vault store partitions

You must instruct Enterprise Vault to combine the archived items in a vault store partition into collection (.cab) files, and then migrate the collection files to the Fujitsu ETERNUS storage device.

The following procedure describes how to configure an existing vault store partition appropriately. You can also enter the required details when you set up a new partition.

To configure a vault store partition

  1. Open the Enterprise Vault Administration Console.
  2. Expand the tree view at the left until the vault store partition that you want to configure is visible at the right.
  3. Right-click the partition, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Collection tab, select Use collection files, and then select Enterprise Vault as the collector.

For guidelines on how to set the other options on this tab, see the online Help.

  5. On the Migration tab, select Migrate Files, and then select FUJITSU ETERNUS Archive Storage as the migration software.
  6. Click the Advanced tab, and ensure that the List settings from box is set to FUJITSU ETERNUS Archive Storage.
  7. Enter the required settings on the Advanced tab. The options are as follows:

    Device retention

Specifies whether you have enabled time period-based data retention on the Fujitsu ETERNUS storage device.

    Login name

Specifies the name with which to log in to the Fujitsu ETERNUS storage device.

    Migrate all files

Specifies whether to collect and migrate all the archived items, even when only a small number are available. By default, Enterprise Vault does not create a new collection file until there are at least 15 archived items to add to it.

If you set Migrate all files to Yes, Enterprise Vault collects and migrates all the eligible items. This may cause Enterprise Vault to create a larger number of collection files than necessary. If you set Migrate all files to No, Enterprise Vault creates fewer collection files but may leave a small number of archived items uncollected and therefore unmigrated.

    Password

Specifies the password with which to log in to the Fujitsu ETERNUS storage device.

    Policy name

Specifies the name of the required ETERNUS policy, which must be unique across all vault store partitions. The Fujitsu ETERNUS storage device supports a maximum of 20 active policies. Therefore, you can configure up to 20 Enterprise Vault partitions to migrate to the same storage device.

    Note:

Any other applications that share the same Fujitsu ETERNUS storage device must not share the same ETERNUS policies as Enterprise Vault. The reason for this requirement is that deleting a partition from within Enterprise Vault translates into a delete policy request within ETERNUS. If Enterprise Vault shares a policy with another application, there is a risk of deleting this application's data.

    Recalled file cache period

Specifies the number of days since the last-accessed date that Enterprise Vault should retain recalled files in the cache. The collection process deletes the recalled files when the cache period has elapsed.

    System wait timeout

If an attempt to retrieve an archived item from the Fujitsu ETERNUS storage device takes an excessively long time, specifies the number of seconds after which to abandon the attempt and remove the requested item from the retrieval queue.

    User wait timeout

If an Enterprise Vault user's request to retrieve an archived item from the Fujitsu ETERNUS storage device takes longer than normal, specifies the number of seconds after which to present the user with the following message:

"The archived item is being retrieved from a slow device. Try again later."

Enterprise Vault continues to retrieve the item in the background until the System wait timeout period has elapsed. Enterprise Vault then abandons the attempt to retrieve the item, and the user must submit the retrieval request again.

  8. Click Test to check the settings that you have entered.

If you receive an error message, see the Enterprise Vault event log and DTrace log for more information. In the DTrace log, all the relevant lines contain the string "ETERNUS Migrator".

  9. Click OK to save the changes that you have made.

Enterprise Vault migrates the files during a collection/migration run. You can schedule the run or perform it on demand by using the Run Now option.
