About Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3)
Amazon S3 is an object storage service that offers data availability, scalability, security, and performance. Customers of all sizes and industries can use it to store and protect any amount of data for a range of use cases such as data lakes, website, backup and restore, mobile applications, archive, IoT devices, enterprise applications, and big data analytics.
For Data Insight to access the Amazon S3 account, make sure that the following prerequisites are met:
Ensure you have sufficient network connectivity for configuration.
Ensure that you select indexing mechanism. By default, persist mode is selected but you can switch to WAL mode by clicking Enable WAL mode in the top ribbon.
Data Insight can provide a better indexing mechanism by supporting index databases in SQLite WAL (Write-Ahead-Logging) mode. If you enable WAL mode, you can reduce disk space by 50% and improve performance of indexing process considerably. WAL mode is not enabled by default.
If you wish to disable WAL mode at any time, click Disable WAL mode on the same page.
The Amazon S3 service is configured and running on the Collector node. This service is responsible for discovering the buckets and scanning the Online account hierarchy for metadata and to gather the audit events.

Enable auditing in Amazon S3.
If your organization requires internet connections to pass through a proxy server, edit the
proxy_server.properties
file to update the proxy settings.Do the following:
The
proxy_server.properties
file contains the proxy settings to connect to your Amazon S3 Online account. It is located in the<InstallDir>\connectors\amazons3
folder.Open the properties file in a text editor, and edit the following details:
Username or domain\username
Proxy password
Hostname or IP address of the proxy server
Port of the proxy server
Configure the proxy server in your LAN settings. In the Windows Control Panel, click
> > . Select and enter the IP of your proxy server.To import the proxy settings, run the following command
netsh winhttp import proxy source=<ie>
Note:
Password should always be encrypted using the Data Insight Hash Utility. For more information about encrypting password, See Data Insight Hash Utility.
If you are using NTLM, you need to do the following:
For Management Server, use the following value for the key: proxy.authType=WITH_NTLM_AUTH
For Collector node, use the following value for the key: proxy.authType=NTLM
Note:
Data Insight uses CloudTrail and Athena services to fetch audit events. You need required access or permissions to configure Amazon S3 account.
