Performing an upgrade using GUI

Before you upgrade, complete the tasks described in See Performing pre-upgrade tasks.. If disaster recovery is configured for the cluster, review the guidelines specified in

  1. Use any one of the following options to log in using the user account that you created when you configured the cluster:

    Note:

If you access the NetBackup Flex Scale infrastructure management UI by using the short host name from a node, set the DNS settings (name server, domain name, and search domain) or ensure that the entry for mapping the short host name to an IP address exists in the hosts file of the node.

  2. On the software management page click Software updates.
  3. To check if any upgrade packages are available on the Veritas website, click Check online for upgrade.

If any upgrade packages are available on the website, the list of available upgrade packages is displayed under Available upgrades.

  4. If you want to upload an upgrade package from a local system, click Upload file, select the file and then click Upload.

Use the same steps to upload the hardware vendor package that is compatible with your hardware platform.

    Note:

You need to upload the hardware vendor package separately only when you upload an upgrade package from your local system.

After uploading the package, it is displayed under Downloaded package files.

  5. Download the upgrade package. Under Available upgrades, next to the upgrade package that you want to download from the Actions menu (vertical ellipsis) click Download package.

After the download is complete, the package is displayed under Downloaded package files and the status is displayed as Available. To view details about the upgrade package, click the package name.

  6. To start the upgrade, under Downloaded package files for the upgrade package, from the Actions menu (vertical ellipsis) click Start upgrade.

Review the readme and click Next.

If VRTSnbfsapp_EEB_ET4104073-3.0.0.0-1.x86_64.rpm is installed, you have an option to perform a parallel or a rolling upgrade. Click PARALLEL or ROLLING, and then click Upgrade.

If the EEB is not installed, when prompted for confirmation click Start upgrade.

An upgrade pre-check runs automatically at the beginning of an upgrade to determine if the system is ready for an upgrade. If the pre-upgrade check fails, you cannot proceed with the upgrade. For details about the tests performed during the pre-upgrade check, See About the pre-upgrade check.

You can view the progress of the upgrade operation on the Software management page. To view detailed status, click View details.

After the upgrade is complete, a notification about successful upgrade is displayed on the top of the page. The version displayed on the page is updated to the newer version and the status of the package in the Downloaded package files changes to Installed.

If the upgrade fails on any one of the cluster nodes, message about successful rollback is displayed in the upgrade progress details and all the nodes in the cluster are automatically rolled back to the previous version. You can view the details about the failure by clicking View details. To troubleshoot any issues during an upgrade, you can download upgrade logs by going to Settings > Diagnostics and selecting the Upgrade component on the Basic tab.
