Description
This article will walk through the process of configuring a connector that will capture Box.com content. It will also discuss what is supported and not supported.
Pre-requisite:
- The Box application must be created. For information, refer to the article: How to create a Box.com Application For Authentication
1. Log into the Admin portal using an account that has the correct permissions
2. Once logged in, open the Administration section > expand Connectors > New Connector
3. Choose Box from the list of connectors
4. Enter a Connector Name. Usually 'Box' is most common.
The Stor and Machine fields will auto-populate. If the Stor does not show Box as the name, stop and open a support case for assistance.
Optionally, enable the email notifications if desired and click next.
5. Configure the options:
- Mode -- There are two options to choose from
- All Users -- This will capture all box users that are found during a crawl
- Specific Users -- This option allows for specifying which users to capture data from based on SMTP address. When this is selected, an additional tab is available labeled: Specific Users
- Capture Old Versions -- When enabled, all versions in Box will be eligible for capture based on the write policy. If false, only the most recent version of files will be called and eligible for capture.
- Capture Deleted Versions -- When enabled, any versions of a file that have been deleted but not yet purged from Box, are eligible for capture based on the write policy. If false, deleted file versions still in the trash are skipped.
- Folder Filters -- These are useful when there is a need to include/exclude specific folders and/or users.
- Selective write policy - To backup all data, leave this option deselected.
6. Enter the JSON contents that were obtained when the pre-requisites were performed.
7. Add a Schedule if desired
8. Review the connector settings and click Save. To run the backup immediately, click 'Save and Crawl'.
Features Supported and Not Supported
Below are the features that are currently supported:
- Capture of all folder and files for all users, or a set of specified users.
- Capture all versions of a file, including versions that have been trashed.
- Capturing all folders and files that are being shared with the user being processed. I.e. capture everything a user has access to, in the context of that user. This means that if the same folder is shared with 10 users, we will capture that folder and its contents 10 times (once for each user), though deduplication does apply which means the file is only stored once in the Stor database.
- Setting the ACL for captured content to the user whose account the content is in.
- Capturing any tags applied to files.
- Capturing Notes. We capture the raw .boxnote file, which does restore properly.
- Deleting versions/files which match the deletion policy. If the last version of a file is deleted, the file is removed. Option to purge content we delete (i.e. bypass the Box trash).
- Restore of folders and files back to Box.
- Missing files can be restored with their entire version history.
- Existing files will have only the latest version from Veritas Alta SaaS Protection restored, and made the current version.
Below are the features that are Not currently supported:
- Capture of files that have been trashed. Note that we DO capture versions in the trash for a file that is not in the trash, but do not capture any content for a file where the file itself (and all versions) are in the trash.
- Capture of sharing permissions. ACLs are always a single entry: The user whose account is being crawled.
- Capture of the trash. File versions that have been trashed, but for which the file is not in the trash are captured.
- Capture of comments on files.
- Capture of custom metadata for files. Anything beyond last modified, size, data owner.
- Capture of tasks.
- Capture of folder/file retention.
- Capture of whether folder/files are on legal hold.
- Restoring multiple versions of files that already exist.
- Restoring any of the content listed above which we do not capture.
- Recreating the permissions on restore.
- Recreating the shares on restore.
