Description

This article will walk through the process of how to use the Export Utility to export a Discovery Case that was created in the Veritas Alta SaaS Protection Admin portal.

Note: The instructions provided assume the user has the Export Utility installed and has the proper access to export cases.  Otherwise, an Veritas Alta SaaS Protection Administrator will need to be engaged.

Launch and connect to the Export Utility

If this is the first time using the utility, it will require the StorSite URL and the user's work email address. If the URL is not available, engage with the Veritas Alta SaaS Protection Administrator.  Otherwise, enter the details and then click ' Next'. You will be prompted to authenticate with your password. Once authenticated, the following screen appears.

In the ' Export Mode' drop-down, choose Discovery Case.

In the ' Case' drop-down, choose the case that to be exported. Cases will only be displayed for the currently logged in user if they have the proper permissions.

Select the Stor from the ' Export From' drop-down. This is the Stor that was used to run the Discovery search.   Note: If the case spans multiple Stors, an export will need to be performed for each Stor.

The ' Export To' has many different options. The most common options for a Discovery case will be either File Folder or Single PST (for email).  However, the following list is a definition for each type.

Click the ellipsis button and provide the ' Connection String', ' Container Name' and ' Root Path' of the Blob Storage location.
  2. File Folder
Click the ellipsis button and provide the ' Destination Path.' If the case content consist of email and this option is chosen, the emails will be exported as .EML files indivudually into the folder selected.
  3. Single Mailbox

Optionally you can choose a ' Folder Path', ' Suppress Duplicates', ' Only Restore Regular Sent Messages', ' Merge 'Active Mailbox' Folder', and ' Suppress Unsupported Item Classes.'

Optionally you can choose to ' Suppress Duplicates' in the export.
    Click ' Ok' to save.

  1. Include Manifests
If enabled, creates an XML manifest file for each file in the directory. This is true even if the file or stub already exists -- if the file is the tenant and a manifest is not present in the directory for the item then one will be created.
  2. Metadata Export
    Select the 'Metadata Export' type.
    1. None
    2. HSMetadataXml
Metadata is exported per item. In each directory where items are restored there is an accompanying file named [filename.ext].hsmetadata.xml that contains any additional metadata for that item.
    3. CSV
Metadata is exported per directory. In each directory where items are restored there is an accompanying file named hsmetadata.csv that contains any additional metadata for all restored items.

Run the Export

As the export runs, the progress can be monitored on the main page and by clicking the ' View advanced monitoring' button.

When the export completes, you can go back to run another export by clicking the ' Run Another Export' button.

You can also see its progress, along with a history of exports for each case within the Discovery App of the Veritas Alta SaaS Protection Admin Portal (open the case and click the ' Export History' tab).

Access the Export

Navigate to the output location you configured for your export and you should see the original folder structure recreated with the items.
