About the NetBackup Deduplication Engine credentials

The characters described in  "About the NetBackup Deduplication Engine credentials" section in NetBackup 8.3 Veritas NetBackup Deduplication Guide are incorrect.
This document describes correct characters which are not allowed to use for NetBackup Deduplication Engine credentials. This apply to previous NetBackup versions too.

The NetBackup Deduplication Engine requires credentials. The deduplication components use the credentials when they communicate with the NetBackup Deduplication Engine. The credentials are for the deduplication engine, not for the host on which it runs.

You enter the NetBackup Deduplication Engine credentials when you configure the storage server.

The following are the rules for the credentials:

The user name and the password can be up to 62 characters in length. The user name and the password cannot be empty.

You can use characters in the printable ASCII range (0x20-0x7E) except for the following characters:

  •         Ampersand (&)
  •         Asterisk (*)
  •         Backward slash (\) and forward slash (/)
  •         Caret sign (^)
  •         Double quote (")
  •         Hash mark (#)          (Note: non-Windows only)
  •         Left parenthesis [(] and right parenthesis [)]
  •         Less than (<) and greater than (>) sign.
  •         Percent sign (%)
  •         Spaces.
  •         Leading and trailing quotes.

Note:

Record and save the credentials in case you need them in the future.

Caution:

You cannot change the NetBackup Deduplication Engine credentials after you enter them. Therefore, carefully choose and enter your credentials. If you must change the credentials, contact your Veritas support representative.
