Cause

In this case, the master server is also a VMware backup host.

  • The master server bprd process is attempting to make use of a temporary file.
  • The backup host bpvmutil process is also attempting to make use of a temporary file.
  • The NetBackup client service on the master server and backup host is:
    1. running under the "Local System" account.
    2. unable to write to the TEMP directory defined in the operating system system variables.

Solution

On the Windows master server and backup host, if it is a separate server from the master:

  1. Open the Microsoft Windows Control Panel application.
  2. Click on "System and Security"
  3. Click on "System"
  4. Click on "Change Settings"
  5. Go to "Advanced" tab
  6. Click on "Environment Variables..."
  7. Go to the lower part of the screen labeled "System variables"
  8. Locate the variables:
    • TMP
    • TEMP
  9. Make sure these are both set to:
    • C:\Windows\Temp
  10. Save the changes.
  11. Stop and restart NetBackup services, so these new variable settings are read in by NetBackup.
