Description

The SORT Data Collector for Windows (SortDC-Win) tool is used to gather OS and Veritas software environment information from one or more servers. This tool is designed to run during production with minimal performance impact. SortDC-Win will produce a CAB archive file which can be transferred to Veritas Support to aid in analyzing and troubleshooting issues. SortDC-Win has replaced the legacy VxExplorer tool.

Follow this guide for details on downloading and running SortDC-Win:

1. Open a Web Browser and navigate to the SORT Data Collectors page: https://sort.veritas.com/data_collectors

2. Choose the 'Graphical user interface' radio button to access the Windows GUI version of SortDC-Win. Select the 'View' link under the 'README' column to review additional details about the collector tool. Click the 'Windows' link under the 'Platform' column to start the download of WinDC_GUI.exe to the system.

3. Once downloaded, double-click the executable to launch the Windows Data Collector wizard.

4. On the 'Welcome' screen, select the 'Storage Foundation / Veritas InfoScale' option and select 'Next'.

5. On the 'System Selection' screen, choose the servers related to the support case which require log collection. The local system will be listed by default. Select the 'Add' button to move this to the list of System names. SortDC-Win will automatically populate the names of all cluster nodes.  Use the 'Remove' button as needed to clean-up the System names list. Type in the name or use the 'Browse' option to add other servers as needed. Choose 'Next' when all required systems have been added.

6. On the first 'Validation Options' screen, select the 'SFWHA / InfoScale Logs Collection' option in the right pane  then select 'Next'.

Note: The 'SFWHA / InfoScale Logs Collection' option can be expanded to select specific logs/components. This can be utilized if the Support Engineer requests specific logs.

7. On the 'Case Details' screen, the 'Incident Date' and 'Time' will be auto populated with the current date and time. Complete required fields 'Customer Name' and 'Case #' with your details. The 'Comments' section can be used to provide more information about why the logs were collected to assist the Support Engineer with their analysis. Click 'Next' to start the collection.

8. The 'Validation Progress' screen can be used to track the Discovery and Collection progress. This can take some time to complete depending on the size of the configuration and the number of servers added.

9. On the 'Summary' screen, the Validation Report shows a summary for the collection tool including the output location of the CAB file for each server. The 'Upload' button can be used to automatically upload the evidence to Veritas, or collect the CAB file and upload following Methods to provide data for Technical Support cases article. Click 'Finish' to close the Wizard.

Output file:
All log data will be located at:  <system_drive>\WinDataCollector\<case_number>\ on each system where the Windows Data Collector wizard was run.

The compressed logs will be located at <system_drive>\WinDataCollector\<case_number>\<server_name>\<date_time_stamp>\CAB\. This information is provided in the 'Validation Report' under 'Collected Logs Location' section.
