Problem

Oracle backup fails with error code 174 when NetBackup spans tape.

Solution

ISSUE:
WhenNetBackup spans tape, the Oracle backup fails with error code 174.

ENVIRONMENT:
NetBackup6.5.3
Mediaserver:HP-UX11.11
Tapelibrary:IBM tape library
DRIVER:atdd:3.5.0.88(Same problem:5.5.0.88 on HP-UX 11.23)

SOLUTION:
Set thefollowing atdd driver variables to 1 by using the following commands:
/opt/OMImag/bin/atdd_cfg-s TRAILER <trailer> <instance>
/opt/OMImag/bin/atdd_cfg-s TRAILER 1 1 "where 1 is the trailer, and 1 is the first deviceinstance"
/opt/OMImag/bin/atdd_cfg-s TRAILER 1 2
/opt/OMImag/bin/atdd_cfg-s TRAILER 1 3
/opt/OMImag/bin/atdd_cfg-s TRAILER 1 4
Thenconfirmation of updating results:
/opt/OMImag/bin/atdd_cfg-g TRAILER <instance>
# ./atdd_cfg-g TRAILER 1
TRAILER:1
# ./atdd_cfg-g TRAILER 2
TRAILER:1
# ./atdd_cfg-g TRAILER 3
TRAILER:1
# ./atdd_cfg-g TRAILER 4
TRAILER:1
Notice: Theabove has to be done for all devices instances. However, the trailer value isnot constant, so after a reboot, it defaults back to 0.  Therefore, it issuggested to  add script of above commands to the initialization script ofsystem.
