Oracle database information after a primary server upgrade to NetBackup 10.4

After you upgrade to NetBackup 10.4, you may notice some changes related to Oracle database management. NetBackup now requires that to fully display the database information in the NetBackup web UI, each database must contain accurate metadata.

Databases tab behavior

The representation of the Oracle databases in NetBackup is temporarily changed before the discovery is run. Note the database name "new114_bettycl01vm3...".

This behavior is normal and does not affect the databases in any existing policies or any current backups.

Blue info circle with intstanceName_clientName and complete discovery button

After the discovery is completed, the database entry displays the original database name, as follows:

databaseName with LegacyOracleCredential next to it and the property Registered

Completing discovery automatically

Discovery can be completed automatically in certain scenarios.

  1. For NetBackup 10.3 or later clients, the database is discovered when the next backup runs.
  2. Upgrade the client to 10.4 and run a backup.

Completing discovery manually

Discovery can be completed manually.

  1. Click Complete discovery on any database where this button is displayed.
You can also select multiple databases and click Complete discovery on the toolbar.
  2. Click Validate current credentials or Discover pluggable databases.
Note: These operations are also available with the NetBackup APIs.

Limitations if you do not complete the discovery

  • Note that the databases in any existing policies or any current backups are not affected.
  • You cannot browse for pluggable databases when creating or editing policies until the container database that contains the pluggable databases is fully discovered.

Migration of existing database credentials to NetBackup 10.4

After you upgrade to NetBackup 10.4, all existing credentials for NetBackup for Oracle are migrated to the Credential Management Service (CMS). A standard naming convention is chosen for the credential names. To maintain security, limited identifying information is used for each credential. Each database is assigned a credential with the name "LegacyOracleCredential_#_#". After the upgrade this credential is used by default.

Migration of existing RMAN catalog credentials to NetBackup 10.4

After you upgrade to NetBackup 10.4, any databases that previously used an RMAN catalog credential are associated with an RMAN catalog asset. That RMAN catalog asset is named "LegacyRMANCatalog_#". The RMAN catalog asset is assigned a credential with the name "LegacyOracleCredential_#_#".
